Honey Baklava
Crispy layers of phyllo dough, chopped nuts, and fragrant honey syrup
By RecipesQueen Kitchen • June 10, 2026
Baklava is a stunning dessert of paper-thin phyllo dough layered with chopped nuts and soaked in a fragrant honey-citrus syrup. Each bite shatters into crispy, nutty, syrupy perfection.
Brush every single layer of phyllo with melted butter for maximum crispness.
The key: pour COLD syrup over HOT baklava. This keeps the layers distinct and crispy rather than soggy.
Ingredients
- 1 lb phyllo dough, thawed
- 2 cups mixed pistachios and walnuts, finely chopped
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup honey
- 1 cup water
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
- 1
Make syrup: simmer water, sugar, honey, lemon juice, and vanilla for 10 minutes. Cool completely.
- 2
Mix nuts with cinnamon.
- 3
Layer 8 sheets of phyllo in a 9x13 pan, brushing each with butter. Add a layer of nuts.
- 4
Repeat: 4 phyllo sheets (buttered) + nuts. Continue until nuts are used. Top with 8 more layers.
- 5
Cut into diamonds. Bake at 350°F for 40-45 minutes until deep golden.
- 6
Pour cold syrup over hot baklava immediately. Let soak and cool 4 hours before serving.
