Red, white, and blue desserts are surging with 1,000% monthly growth as summer celebrations approach. This stunning layered trifle is the centerpiece every cookout needs — and it requires zero baking.

Layers of vanilla pound cake, silky whipped cream, fresh strawberries, and plump blueberries create a patriotic showstopper in a clear glass bowl. The colors naturally separate into gorgeous red, white, and blue stripes that look spectacular from every angle.

Assemble it the morning of your celebration and let it chill — the flavors meld beautifully as the cake absorbs the berry juices. It feeds a crowd and disappears fast.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf store-bought vanilla pound cake, cubed
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 2 cups fresh blueberries
  • 3 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 8 oz mascarpone cheese
  • 2 tbsp strawberry jam (optional glaze)

Instructions

  1. 1

Whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until stiff peaks form. Fold in the mascarpone cheese until smooth and combined.

  2. 2

Arrange a layer of cubed pound cake in the bottom of a large glass trifle bowl or clear serving dish.

  3. 3

Spread a generous layer of the whipped cream mixture over the cake cubes.

  4. 4

Add a layer of sliced strawberries in a single layer, pressing them against the glass for visual effect.

  5. 5

Repeat with another layer of cake, whipped cream, and blueberries. Continue layering until the bowl is full, ending with whipped cream.

  6. 6

Top with a decorative arrangement of strawberries and blueberries. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
