Slow-braised red cabbage with apples, red wine vinegar, and warm spices. The essential German side dish for any festive roast.

Ingredients

  • 1 head red cabbage, shredded
  • 2 apples, sliced
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 3 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp butter

Instructions

    Melt butter, add cabbage, apples, sugar, vinegar, wine, cloves, and bay leaf.

    Braise covered on low heat for 45-60 minutes until tender.
