A simple yeasted sheet cake studded with butter chunks and sliced almonds, baked until golden with a caramelized top. Northern German tradition.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 packet yeast
  • 0.5 cup warm milk
  • 0.25 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 0.75 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 0.5 cup sliced almonds

Instructions

    Make yeast dough with flour, yeast, milk, sugar, and egg. Let rise 45 minutes.

    Press dough onto a lined baking sheet. Poke dimples with your finger.

    Push butter cubes into the dimples. Sprinkle with almonds and remaining sugar.

    Bake at 200°C for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
