A summery German classic — a buttery sponge base topped with fresh strawberries and a shimmering red gelatin glaze.

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 0.75 cup sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1.5 lbs fresh strawberries
  • 1 packet red cake glaze (Tortenguss)
  • 1 cup water + 2 tbsp sugar (for glaze)

Instructions

    Beat eggs and sugar until thick. Fold in flour and baking powder. Pour into a 26cm springform.

    Bake at 180°C for 25 minutes. Cool completely.

    Arrange strawberries on top (halved, cut side down).

    Prepare Tortenguss per package. Pour over strawberries. Chill until set.
