5-Minute Microwave Corn on the Cob
The easiest way to cook perfect corn — in the husk, in the microwave
By RecipesQueen Kitchen • June 10, 2026
Microwave corn on the cob is trending up 500% monthly as people discover the simplest cooking hack of the summer. No boiling water, no grill, no waiting — just toss an ear of corn straight into the microwave with the husk on and it comes out perfectly steamed every single time.
The husk acts as a natural steamer, trapping moisture and infusing the corn with sweet, concentrated flavor. When you cut off the bottom end and shake, the silk slides right off — no tedious de-silking required.
Slather with butter, sprinkle with salt, and you've got summer's most satisfying side dish in under 5 minutes. This method is a game-changer for weeknight dinners and BBQ prep.
Ingredients
- 4 ears fresh corn on the cob (in the husk)
- 4 tbsp salted butter
- 1 tsp flaky sea salt
- 1 pinch freshly cracked black pepper
- 1 optional chili powder or tajín for sprinkling
Instructions
- 1
Place one ear of corn (in the husk, no trimming needed) in the microwave. Microwave on high for 4-5 minutes per ear.
- 2
Using an oven mitt, remove the corn from the microwave. It will be very hot.
- 3
Cut off the bottom end of the corn (about 1 inch above the stem). Grab the top of the husk and shake — the corn should slide out cleanly, leaving the silk behind.
- 4
Repeat with remaining ears. For multiple ears at once, add 2 minutes per additional ear.
- 5
Slather each ear with butter, sprinkle with flaky salt and pepper. Add chili powder or tajín if desired.
- 6
Serve immediately while hot. The corn stays warm for about 10 minutes in the husk if you need to hold it.
